Kobo Libra Colour vs Clara Colour: Is the Bigger Screen Worth It?

Kobo Libra Colour vs Clara Colour is a question of size, not of screen quality: Kobo lists the same E Ink Kaleido 3 panel, the same 300 ppi for black and white and 150 ppi for color, and the same IPX8 waterproofing on both. What you pay extra for on the Libra is area, buttons, storage and stylus support. We read both makers' pages and both Amazon listings on 9 October 2026, then read what independent reviewers found.

How we compared them

The NomadsToolsLab team read both Kobo product pages and both Amazon pages on 9 October 2026 with a US delivery address; every number in the table comes from Kobo's pages unless we name someone else. What surprised us: Kobo lists the Clara Colour battery by color. The black model has 1500 mAh and the white one 1900 mAh, against 2050 mAh in the Libra, so the Clara we link (white) is the larger-battery version.

Reviewers agree the choice is about size and handling. Eileen's Behind The Scenes (June 2025) loves both and says the Libra is her favorite to hold and annotate on, but the Clara is the one she reads on most, because it fits any bag and she worries less about damaging the pricier Libra. Courtney of TheBookNookCorner (March 2025) praises both models' subtle color and battery. Trusted Reviews (Max Parker, May 2024) tested the Libra Colour: it found the colors muted rather than vivid, and said color alone is not a reason to buy it.

Our conclusion: the Clara is the better travel e-reader unless you want buttons, a stylus or a bigger page.

Which one to pick

In short: Travel and one-hand reading: Clara. Big page, buttons, notes: Libra.

You carry it everywhere and read novels: the Clara, which is lighter and fits a jacket pocket. You read comics, PDFs or in large fonts: the Libra's 7-inch page and landscape mode give more room. You want to write notes on your books: only the Libra works with Kobo Stylus 2. You read in bed one-handed: the Libra's buttons give your thumb a place to rest, per Eileen.
