Meet the Founder

They call me the King of Traveling.

I have been traveling for 27 years. NomadsToolsLab is built on real road experience, not affiliate hype.

This site is not a content farm. Every recommendation is either something I use myself or something I researched in depth, and the articles tell you which is which. Old-school traveling wisdom, mixed with the tech stack that actually works today.

My route in five steps

From a beach bar in Aruba to a laptop in Bali

  1. 1
    Aruba

I flew to Aruba with 100 euros because a friend was getting married. Within five minutes on the island I had a beach bar job, a room in a villa and a borrowed jeep.

  2. 2
    South America

Then I backpacked through South America for eleven years. Once I walked into a harbor and asked everyone where they were going. After three days I found a couple with a sailboat who took me to Venezuela.

  3. 3
    Berlin

In Berlin I built my own houseboat and lived on the water for five years, in the Rummelsburger Bucht. Solar panels, my own water filter systems and no rent, because I was anchored in the middle of the water.

  4. 4
    Spain and Portugal

Then I sold everything and lived off grid in a van I built myself and an old caravan, in Spain and Portugal. Seven years in a van and a caravan. The van started as my work van, because I did tree care.

  5. 5
    Bali

Then I followed my life path and went from physical work to a desk. Today I build NomadsToolsLab from a laptop in Bali.

Someone stole my backpack in South America. I took my losses, and it was only good, because after that I traveled lighter. You do not need all that stuff. You do not miss it.
