TRTL vs Cabeau: Which Travel Neck Pillow to Pack?

TRTL vs Cabeau is a choice between a scarf and a horseshoe. The TRTL is a fleece wrap with a support built in; its maker lists 4.7 oz and a flat fold into a carry bag. The Cabeau Evolution S3 is a memory foam pillow with seat straps that fasten it to the headrest. We read both makers' pages and both Amazon listings on 9 October 2026, then read what independent reviewers found.

Quick answer
Checked on 9 October 2026. Pick the TRTL if packing space and weight rule: its maker lists 4.7 oz, a water-resistant carry bag and a 100-day guarantee. Pick the Cabeau Evolution S3 if you want memory foam and seat straps that hold the pillow to the headrest: it sells in far bigger numbers on Amazon (5K+ bought last month against 800+).

How we compared them
The NomadsToolsLab team read both makers' product pages on 9 October 2026 and checked both Amazon pages with a US address. What surprised us: the weight gap. Trtl lists 4.7 oz on its own page, while Mattress Clarity lists the S3 at 11.6 oz.
We also found that the independent tests we could read compare the TRTL with Cabeau's newer Evolution X rather than the S3, so we added the X below. Better Wander tested the X on a round-trip flight and the TRTL on a car ride: they found the X soft and breathable with cooling vents, the TRTL's fleece hot and snug, and its one-sided support harder to position. The X, they say, wins every category except packing. In a YouTube comparison by Alder & Jade Reviews the reviewer loves the TRTL for how small it packs and says its Velcro is loud, and that swapping sides means undoing it; a friend of theirs found it too tall at a small frame.
For the S3 itself, Mattress Clarity says the seat straps are made for headrests with extendable wings, which some planes lack, and that the support can feel like a neck brace and its sides touched the bottom of the reviewer's earlobes. That reviewer receives free products and earns affiliate commissions.
Our conclusion: pick on packing and fit. Every number in the table comes from the makers' own pages unless we name the reviewer.

1. Trtl Travel Pillow Original 2.0

Trtl Travel Pillow Original 2.0
The Trtl Travel Pillow is worn like a scarf: you wrap the soft fleece around your neck and the internal support sits against it. The Trtl page lists 8.7 x 9.5 x 3.6 inches and 4.7 oz (133 g), hypoallergenic fleece and a water-resistant carry bag with a carabiner, and says to take the internal support out and machine wash the pillow cold at 30 degrees. It offers a 100-day guarantee and free US shipping on its own site.
On 9 October 2026 the Original 2.0 in jet black (regular size) showed In Stock with an Add to cart button, shipped from Amazon and sold by Trtl, with a 30-day refund or replacement and 800+ bought in the past month. Amazon's listing offers a small size for people 5 ft 7 in (170 cm) and under and a regular size for taller people. The page showed no category rank.
The trade-offs, per the reviewers above: the Velcro is loud, the fleece runs warm, and it supports the head on one side at a time, so changing sides means re-fastening it.
2. Cabeau Evolution S3

Cabeau Evolution S3 Travel Pillow
The Cabeau Evolution S3 is a memory foam pillow. The Cabeau page lists an exclusive seat strap system, a thin flat back, raised side supports, an adjustable front clasp, a removable washable cover and a travel case. You roll the pillow into the case and clip it to your luggage. Cabeau says it is made for adults and is too big for children under 13, and that you machine wash the cover on cool settings and never wash the foam: wipe it with a damp cloth.
On 9 October 2026 the listing we link (jet black) showed In Stock with an Add to cart button, shipped from Amazon and sold by Cabeau (Azurous Inc.), with a 30-day refund or replacement and 5K+ bought in the past month, the biggest number among the pillows here. The page showed no category rank. Cabeau also offers a lifetime warranty program: register within 30 days of purchase and replace one product a year.
The trade-offs, per Mattress Clarity: the straps need a headrest with extendable wings, it is bulkier than a wrap, the support is firm, and its sides touched the bottom of the reviewer's earlobes, which may bother low-hanging wired headphones.

Also worth a look: Cabeau Evolution X

Cabeau Evolution X Travel Neck Pillow
The Cabeau Evolution X lets you change the circumference, the height and the closure. The Cabeau page says it is built on precision-designed plastic support shells wrapped in memory foam, with cooling vents and a removable washable cover, and that it may need a short adjustment period. On 9 October 2026 the listing we link showed In Stock with an Add to cart button, shipped from Amazon and sold by Cabeau (Azurous Inc.), with 200+ bought in the past month. It sells in smaller numbers than the S3, which is why it is an extra here and not a head-to-head pick.
Which one to pick

Carry-on only, every ounce counts: the TRTL at 4.7 oz, which packs flat. You mostly fly economy with a headrest that has wings: the S3, whose straps are built for that. You want to tune the fit: the Evolution X, which Better Wander preferred in every category except packing. You are small-framed: try the TRTL's small size on Amazon, and note that Alder & Jade's friend found it too tall.

From the road: a pillow you stuff with clothes

Chenzo, founder of NomadsToolsLab
There is also a kind of scarf that you can stuff full of clothes. That is also a good travel hack, because you can just take it on the plane and they do not check it.
Yes, that works. I have done that so many times.
That is a different product from the pillows above. No airline we checked promises this in writing, so treat it as Chenzo's experience and not a rule, and check your airline's hand baggage page. Our carry-on only packing guide has more ways to save space.
Watch: TRTL against Cabeau Evolution X
Video by Alder & Jade Reviews. Their description carries paid Amazon links.
Alder & Jade Reviews put the TRTL next to the Cabeau Evolution X: one packs very small and holds the neck up high, the other feels softer and limits head tilt. Both pillows from the video are below.

FAQ
Is TRTL or Cabeau better for a long flight?
It depends on what you pack and where you sit. The TRTL lists 4.7 oz and packs flat; the Cabeau Evolution S3 is memory foam with seat straps that need a headrest with extendable wings. Independent reviewers compared the TRTL with the newer Evolution X, and Better Wander preferred the X for comfort and the TRTL for packing.
Which is lighter, the TRTL or the Cabeau Evolution S3?
The TRTL is lighter: Trtl lists 4.7 oz on its own page, and Mattress Clarity lists the S3 at 11.6 oz.
Can I wash a TRTL or a Cabeau pillow?
Trtl says to take out the internal support and machine wash the pillow cold at 30 degrees. Cabeau says to machine wash the S3 cover on cool settings and not to wash the memory foam, only wipe it with a damp cloth.
Do Cabeau seat straps fit every airplane seat?
No. Mattress Clarity says the straps are made for headrests with extendable wings and that some planes do not have them.
Does the TRTL fit everyone?
Not necessarily. A friend of the Alder & Jade reviewer found it too tall at a small frame, and Amazon's listing for the Original 2.0 offers a small size for people 5 ft 7 in (170 cm) and under and a regular size for taller people.
Can I stuff a scarf-style pillow with clothes?
Chenzo has done it many times with a scarf you fill with clothes and says it was not checked at the airport. That is a different product from these two, and we found no airline that promises it in writing.
