DJI Mic 2 vs RODE Wireless GO (Gen 3) is a close call on paper: both are 2.4 GHz clip-on systems with 32-bit float recording inside the transmitters. The DJI lists noise cancelling and a 28 g transmitter; the RODE lists GainAssist, 260 m of range and a 5-year warranty. We read both maker pages on 9 October 2026, plus the US government list that mentions DJI, and the cheat sheet below shows who should pick which.

Quick answer

Checked on 9 October 2026. Pick the DJI Mic 2 if you want noise cancelling, a receiver with a screen and dial, and a pocket-size kit for vlogs and interviews. Pick the RODE Wireless GO (Gen 3) if you want GainAssist level control, the longer listed range and battery, and a 5-year warranty on the wireless line.

How we compared them

The NomadsToolsLab team read the DJI Mic 2 spec pages and the RØDE Wireless GO (Gen 3) product page end to end on 9 October 2026, read the FCC fact sheet behind DJI's US listing, and checked both Amazon pages with a US address. What surprised us: DJI's own spec page prints two ranges, 250 m under FCC rules and 160 m under CE rules, while RØDE prints a single 260 m line-of-sight figure. We also saw that RØDE's page now lists Direct Connect, a Bluetooth link from the transmitters straight to an iPhone through its RØDE Capture app, which an older comparison says the RØDE lacked.

The team at Synced compared the two side by side in December 2024: they put the DJI about US$50 higher and credit it with noise cancelling, a touchscreen and an 18-hour total with its case, and the RØDE with a wider gain range and GainAssist. Adam Juniper at Digital Camera World called the Mic 2 a premium product whose "only real worry" is that it may be overkill. On YouTube, SemiPro Tech+Gear found the Wireless GO (Gen 3) worked well in all of his testing, and Digital Tech Reviews & Tips ran the DJI, RØDE and Saramonic 32-bit float systems side by side without sponsorship from any mic company.

Our reading: the sound is close, so the choice comes down to features. DJI wins on noise cancelling and a more complete screen-and-dial receiver, RØDE on range, battery, level control and warranty. Every number in the table comes from the makers' own pages.

DJI Mic 2 vs RODE Wireless GO at a glance

In short: Both record 32-bit float inside the transmitters. DJI adds noise cancelling, RØDE adds GainAssist and a longer listed range.

Read the table as direction. DJI quotes its battery with two transmitters running and without backup recording, and RØDE gives one operating-time figure. The testers below add what the makers leave out.

1. DJI Mic 2: the feature-packed one

In short: A 28 g transmitter, a receiver you can see and turn, and noise cancelling built in.

On DJI's page the Mic 2 transmitter and receiver weigh 28 g each, run 6 hours per charge and drop into a 200 g charging case with a 3,250 mAh battery. The page lists 32-bit float internal recording, 14 hours of internal recording and smart noise cancelling, and a 250 m range that falls to 160 m under CE rules. Digital Camera World adds a metal case, a receiver with a touchscreen and rotary dial, and phone connections by USB-C, Lightning or Bluetooth.

The limits are in the same sources. DJI prints its 6 hour figure for a set-up with two transmitters and no backup recording, so expect less with the internal recorder on. Digital Camera World found the phone mounts a tight fit and called the kit "overkill" for some people. Synced notes the DJI costs about US$50 more than the RØDE.

The RØDE page lists 260 m of line-of-sight range, up to 7 hours of operating time, 32-bit float on-board recording in each transmitter and Intelligent GainAssist, which balances levels on the fly. The built-in mics use the same capsules and preamps as the Wireless PRO, and there are 3.5 mm locking inputs, a headphone output and a USB-C connection for computers. RØDE gives every wireless product a 5-year warranty.

The box holds two transmitters, the receiver, a 3.5 mm TRS patch cable, USB-C and Lightning cables, a USB-C multi adaptor, a carry pouch and three furry windshields. RØDE sells the Charge Case+ separately, and its Amazon listing mentions a charging hub, so check that you are buying the kit you want. Synced found the RØDE cheaper, with a wider gain range and a non-touch screen run by buttons.

Range, battery and recording

In short: RØDE lists more range and battery. DJI lists a shorter range under CE rules and a smaller battery per unit.

Range is where the sheets differ most. RØDE lists 260 m line of sight, and DJI lists 250 m under FCC rules and 160 m under CE rules, measured outdoors without interference or obstacles. Digital Camera World repeats the 250 m and 160 m split. In a street or a hall, both will do less. If you shoot in Europe, the CE number is the one that applies to a DJI kit.

Recording is a draw on paper: both transmitters record 32-bit float on their own, so a clipped take can be saved afterwards. DJI adds noise cancelling, which the Synced team single out as a reason to pick the DJI. RØDE's answer is GainAssist, which levels the signal on the fly. Digital Tech Reviews & Tips says it tried to show each mic in its best situation and with its flaws, so its video is worth a listen before you decide.

DJI and the US list

In short: The FCC list is about drones and drone parts. It does not mention microphones, and the Mic 2 was on sale new on amazon.com today.

DJI sits on a US list since 22 December 2025. That day the FCC added foreign-produced drones and drone critical components to its Covered List, and DJI is the best-known maker in that group. The FCC's fact sheet says the update stops new device models from getting FCC authorization, and that it does not prohibit the import, sale or use of existing models the FCC authorized before. The FCC's public notice says drone critical components "include but are not limited to" data transmission devices, communications systems, flight controllers, ground control stations, navigation systems, sensors and cameras, batteries and motors. Microphones are not named, and the FCC has issued later notices, so check its Covered List page for the current state.

The DJI Mic 2 is a wireless microphone, not a drone. On 9 October 2026 amazon.com showed it new, in stock, with an Add to cart button for a New York address, and that is the only store we link to. If you live in the US and want to be sure about a DJI product, check its page before you pay. This is not legal advice.

Wireless mics also pair with tiny cameras: Insta360 lists the DJI Mic 2 among the microphones the GO Ultra supports, see our Insta360 GO Ultra vs GO 3S comparison.

Which one to pick

In short: Noise and a screen: DJI. Range, level control and warranty: RØDE.

Pick the DJI Mic 2 if you film in noisy places, want a receiver you can read and turn, and like a kit that fits in a pocket. It is the one for street vlogs, interviews and quick phone shoots. Get yours on Amazon

Pick the RODE Wireless GO (Gen 3) if you want the longer listed range, an automatic level helper and a long warranty, and you do not mind a smaller screen. It suits solo shoots, travel interviews and anyone who prefers to keep the settings simple. Get yours on Amazon
