Insta360 Ace Pro 2 vs GoPro HERO 13 is a choice between a bigger sensor and a flip screen, or a smaller body with swappable lens mods. The Ace Pro 2 lists a 1/1.3 inch sensor, a Leica lens and 12 m waterproof. The GoPro HERO13 Black lists 5.3K60 video, HyperSmooth 6.0 stabilization and 10 m waterproof. We read both maker pages and both Amazon pages on 5 October 2026.

Quick answer
Checked on 5 October 2026. Choose the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 if you shoot in dim light or want a flip screen to frame yourself: both testers we read found it clearly better when the light drops. Choose the GoPro HERO13 Black if you want the slightly smaller, lighter body, the HB-Series lens mods and the long-standing GoPro mounts. Note that the Amazon listing for the Ace Pro 2 is the Dual Battery Bundle, sold by Insta360 Direct.

How we compared them
The NomadsToolsLab team read the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 online manual and the GoPro HERO13 Black tech specs end to end on 5 October 2026, and checked both Amazon pages with a US address. What surprised us was that the testers do not agree on battery life. Werner Plank of MountMedia measured 1 hour 42 minutes for the Ace Pro 2 and 1 hour 48 minutes for the HERO13 at 4K30, while Evan Rally reports 100 to 110 minutes against 80 to 90. We treat battery as close to a draw.

The rest of the picture is more consistent. Plank, who bought the HERO13 himself and was lent the Ace Pro 2 by Insta360 without any extra paid sponsorship, found the Ace Pro 2 clearly better in low light and in bright, backlit scenes, and said its stabilization is at least as good as the GoPro's. He found the GoPro slightly smaller and lighter, with the better lens accessories and the only 10-bit log profile. His HERO13 switched itself off after 1 hour 4 minutes at 4K60 in a 20 degree room, while the Ace Pro 2 recorded until the battery ran out. Rally, writing for It's Better on the Road (16 September 2025), also puts the Ace Pro 2 ahead in low light, and calls the GoPro the safer choice for glove-friendly buttons and a traditional editing workflow. Every number in the table comes from the makers' own pages and listings.
Our conclusion: for travel footage that mixes cafes, evenings and daylight, the Ace Pro 2 has the edge. If you want the smaller body and the accessory system, the HERO13 still makes sense.

1. Insta360 Ace Pro 2: the bigger sensor

Insta360 Ace Pro 2 Dual Battery Bundle
The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 Dual Battery Bundle is sold by Insta360 Direct. The online manual lists a 1/1.3 inch sensor with an F2.6 aperture, two microphones, a 1800 mAh battery that charges in about 47 minutes on a 30 W charger, and a weight of about 182 g for the standard version. It is waterproof to 12 m as a camera only and to 60 m with the Dive Case. The Amazon title also lists a Leica co-engineered lens and dual AI chips. Product photo: Insta360.

Plank dropped the Ace Pro 2 several times with the screen flipped up and found that the folding mechanism survived, though a corner hit left a dent. He also says the lens cover can now be removed and replaced, which the first Ace Pro could not do.
2. GoPro HERO13 Black: lens mods and mounts

GoPro HERO13 Black
The GoPro HERO13 Black is sold by Amazon. GoPro lists 5.3K60, 4K120, 2.7K120 and 1080p240 video, 27 MP photos, HLG HDR with 10-bit colour, and HyperSmooth 6.0 stabilization. It is waterproof to 33 ft (10 m), has a replaceable water-repelling lens cover and a 1900 mAh Enduro battery rated for more than 2.5 hours of 1080p30 or more than 1.5 hours of 4K30 and 5.3K30 recording. The Amazon title lists compatibility with HB-Series lenses. Product photo: GoPro.

GoPro lists a magnetic mount as sold separately. Plank says the lens and accessory range is the HERO13's biggest advantage, with ultra-wide, macro and ND filter lenses, though all of them cost extra. He also says the HERO13 captures GPS data inside the camera, while the Ace Pro 2 takes it from your phone.
Waterproof, storage and backing up footage

The makers' depth ratings are 12 m for the Ace Pro 2 and 33 ft (10 m) for the HERO13, and both need intact seals and a closed door. Read the care notes before you go near salt water. Video files from either camera add up fast, especially 8K. We cover backups in how to back up photos while traveling and compare two drives in Samsung T7 Shield vs SanDisk Extreme. Which one to pick
The evening and cafe shooter: the Insta360 Ace Pro 2, since both testers found it ahead in low light. The vlogger who films themselves: the Ace Pro 2 flip screen. The one who wants an accessory system: the HERO13, with its lens mods and mounting fingers. The one with a tight pack: the HERO13 is slightly smaller and lighter, according to Plank. The long timelapse on a hot beach: Plank saw the Ace Pro 2 keep recording where the HERO13 shut off, in his 4K60 test. A power bank helps with either: see best power banks for digital nomads.
