Insta360 GO Ultra vs GO 3S is a choice between a bigger tiny camera and a smaller tiny camera. On Insta360's own compare page the GO Ultra has a 1/1.28-inch sensor, 4K at 60 fps and a 50 MP photo mode, while the GO 3S is the lighter one at 39.1 g and tops out at 4K30. We read both maker pages on 9 October 2026 and checked both Amazon listings with a US address.

Quick answer

Checked on 9 October 2026. Pick the Insta360 GO Ultra if you film in dim light, want longer run times and 4K60, or like a microSD slot: Insta360 lists 70 minutes on its own and 200 with the Action Pod. Pick the Insta360 GO 3S if size and weight come first: the camera weighs 39.1 g against 52.9 g, and the testers we read say it is the smaller, more flexible one.

How we compared them

The NomadsToolsLab team read Insta360's compare page and the product pages for the GO Ultra and GO 3S end to end on 9 October 2026, and checked both Amazon pages with a US address. What surprised us: the GO 3S's weak spot is heat and battery out of the Action Pod, more than its picture. MountMedia (August 2025) recorded 4K30 for 46 minutes on the GO Ultra against 29 on the GO 3S without the pod, and in an office at about 24 degrees the GO 3S shut down after about 22 minutes while the Ultra ran until the battery was empty. Eat Sleep 360 got about 40 minutes from the Ultra on its own, short of Insta360's 70-minute claim (which is for 1080p24), and reached 66% instead of 80% in a 12 minute fast charge.

Both testers still call the GO 3S a capable camera, and Eat Sleep 360 points out that the Ultra is bigger and heavier, so it is not a straight upgrade. Amazon's own review summary for the GO 3S says owners mostly complain about battery life and overheating, and for the Ultra it says owners praise the 4K video and compact size with mixed notes on battery and value. Every number in the table comes from Insta360's own pages.

Figures are Insta360's own lab claims unless a tester is named, read on 9 October 2026 on the GO Ultra vs GO 3S compare page and the product pages for the GO Ultra and the GO 3S. The Action Pod is splashproof (IPX4) and Insta360 says not to use it underwater.

Insta360 GO Ultra: bigger sensor, longer runs

In short: A 1/1.28-inch sensor, 4K60 and a microSD slot, in a camera about a third bigger than the GO 3S.

Insta360 gives the GO Ultra a 1/1.28-inch sensor and a 5nm AI chip, 4K at up to 60 fps, 50 MP photos, a 156 degree maximum field of view, PureVideo for low light and Active HDR. It adds an ambient light sensor against flicker and a fast charge of 0 to 80% in 12 minutes. The standalone camera is rated to 10 m (IPX8), and the Action Pod is not.

MountMedia's tester found the picture clearly better than the GO 3S: more neutral color where the 3S leans yellow, better dynamic range, and low light as the Ultra's biggest strength. He also found the stabilization slightly better, and in-camera 2.7K120 slow motion that the 3S cannot match without processing in the app. The catches: Eat Sleep 360 says the mount is new and not compatible with the GO 3S, and in daylight the Ultra sometimes pushed exposure too far. The camera is bigger and heavier, which both testers say makes it less minimalist.

Insta360 GO 3S: smaller and lighter, with built-in storage

Insta360 lists the GO 3S at 39.1 g for the camera and 96.3 g with the Action Pod, with 4K video, 12 MP photos, FlowState stabilization and IPX8 waterproofing to 10 m. The camera has a 310 mAh battery and 38 minutes of run time on its own, 140 with the pod. Storage is built in, 64 or 128 GB, so you do not need a card but cannot swap one. MountMedia notes it ships with a pivot stand that the Ultra lacks.

Testers say heat and battery are its weak points when used alone: MountMedia saw a shutdown after about 22 minutes of 4K30 in a 24 degree room, and Eat Sleep 360 got about 32 minutes from the camera on its own. Amazon's owner summary says the same, with some owners reporting 10 to 15 minutes of use before the battery runs low. In the pod it lasts much longer, 1 hour 57 minutes in both tests. If you run it mostly in the pod, or want the lightest camera, it is still the one to look at.

Which one to pick

In short: Pick by how long you record and what light you film in.

Night markets, cafes and evening walks: the GO Ultra, because low light is where the testers saw its biggest gain. Long days of hands-free POV: the GO Ultra, which runs longer with and without the pod and charges fast. Smallest camera in your pocket or on a cap: the GO 3S. Kids, pets and family trips: either; the 3S for size, the Ultra for picture and runtime.

For sound, Insta360's page for the GO Ultra lists the DJI Mic 2 and DJI Mic Mini among the microphones and earbuds it supports: see our DJI Mic 2 vs RODE Wireless GO. For longer, flatter shooting see our Insta360 Ace Pro 2 vs GoPro HERO13 comparison and the camera guide for digital nomads. Our other camera comparisons cover the Insta360 X5 vs X4 and the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro vs GoPro HERO13.

Is the Insta360 GO Ultra better than the GO 3S?

On Insta360's pages the Ultra has the larger sensor, 4K60 and longer run times, and testers found its low-light footage clearly better. The GO 3S is smaller and lighter.

How long do the GO Ultra and GO 3S record?

Insta360 lists 70 minutes (GO Ultra) and 38 (GO 3S) alone, and 200 and 140 with the Action Pod. MountMedia measured 46 and 29 minutes of 4K30 alone, and 2 hours 20 and 1 hour 57 in the pod.

Does the Insta360 GO 3S overheat?

MountMedia saw the GO 3S shut down after about 22 minutes of 4K30 alone in a 24 degree room, and after about an hour in the pod. The GO Ultra did not. Amazon owners mention overheating on the GO 3S too.

Do the GO Ultra and GO 3S need an SD card?

The GO Ultra does: Insta360 lists a microSD card as required, up to 2 TB. The GO 3S has built-in 64 or 128 GB and no card slot.

Are the GO Ultra and GO 3S waterproof?

The camera alone is rated IPX8 to 10 m on both. The Action Pod is only splashproof (IPX4), and Insta360 says not to use it underwater.
