Tenerife Digital Nomad Guide 2026: Visa, Cost, Coworking

Here is our Tenerife digital nomad guide. Tenerife runs on its own microclimate: the south coast stays sunny and dry most of the year, the north is greener and wetter, and the middle of the island is a volcano tall enough to have its own weather. That range is exactly why it works for nomads who want reliable winter sun without leaving the EU or its digital nomad visa. Two airports, a regulated bus network, and a taxi fleet with Cabildo-set rates make logistics simple once you know the numbers. This guide covers getting in, coworking, Spain's nomad visa as it applies here, and where to actually stay.
Quick answer
Fly into Tenerife Sur for the resort coast, take a TITSA bus for 3 to 4 euros into Playa de las Americas, and expect a taxi from Tenerife Sur to Costa Adeje to cost around 22 euros under the Cabildo's fixed rates. Tenerife falls under Spain's national digital nomad visa, same as the mainland.
Checked on 5 October 2026: Spain's 2026 minimum wage is 1,221 euros in 14 payments (Royal Decree 126/2026, BOE), which sets the income bar for the nomad visa (see below).

Where digital nomads base themselves on Tenerife
Two airports split the island in two very different directions: Tenerife Sur (TFS) drops you into the resort coast, Tenerife Norte (TFN) is closer to the capital and the greener side.
- Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The island's capital and its main coworking hub, less touristy and cheaper than the south coast resorts.
- La Laguna. A UNESCO-listed university town next to Santa Cruz, quieter and more affordable.
- Costa Adeje and Playa de las Americas. The resort strip in the south, sunny most of the year, built for short and mid-term stays.
- La Orotava. A historic town in the north with a small but growing coliving scene.

Teide National Park, home to Spain's highest peak, is the island's single biggest attraction, alongside the rugged Anaga mountains in the northeast and the cliffs at Los Gigantes on the west coast. Our best coliving spaces guide covers a few options if you'd rather not handle your own lease on the island.

Getting from the airport into the city
From Tenerife Sur, the official carrier TITSA (the green buses) runs lines 111, 343 and 711 to Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos roughly every hour, taking 30 to 35 minutes and costing 3.20 to 3.70 euros. (Source: titsa.com, checked 30 September 2026.)

Taxi
Taxi fares are set annually by the Cabildo de Tenerife (the island government) and are binding for every driver. Fixed fares from Tenerife Sur: roughly 18 euros to Playa de las Americas, 16 euros to Los Cristianos, 22 euros to Costa Adeje, 35 euros to Playa Paraiso and 48 euros to Los Gigantes. The metered rate starts at a 2.15 euro flag fall by day (2.65 euros at night), plus 1.10 to 1.45 euros per kilometer, with a roughly 8.50 euro airport surcharge at Tenerife Sur. (Source: taxidrivertenerife.com, citing the Cabildo's decree; we did not access the Cabildo's own tariff page directly this round, checked 30 September 2026.)
No specific Tenerife taxi-scam report turned up in our research this round. The fixed Cabildo rates above are the reference point, if a driver quotes noticeably more, ask to see the official tariff sheet.
| Option | Where it goes | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| TITSA bus (111/343/711) | Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos | Budget travelers from Tenerife Sur |
| Fixed-fare taxi | Door to door, Cabildo-set rate | Known price, no meter surprises |
| Pre-booked transfer | Door to door, price agreed before landing | First trip, groups, heavy luggage |
If you'd rather have a driver waiting at arrivals, Welcome Pickups covers both Tenerife airports with a price agreed before you land.

Coworking, cost and Spain's digital nomad visa
Coworking on Tenerife centers on Coworking Nomad in Santa Cruz and the Nine coliving and coworking setup in La Orotava. Spain's average fixed broadband speed is roughly 263 Mbps nationally, no separate Tenerife-only figure exists. (Sources: thingsnomadsdo.com, nomadcowork.com and the Speedtest Global Index via worldpopulationreview.com, December 2025 data, checked 30 September 2026.)
There's no Canary Islands-specific visa. Tenerife runs on the same Spanish national digital nomad visa as the mainland, covering the whole archipelago. Our digital nomad visa comparison has the full income and renewal requirements. (Sources: canarianweekly.com and ferryhopper.com, both confirm the Canaries fall under the national scheme, checked 30 September 2026.)
On income: the visa asks for at least 200% of Spain's monthly minimum wage on a 12-month basis. With the 2026 minimum wage of 1,221 euros in 14 payments (Royal Decree 126/2026, BOE), the law firm migratiolex.com works that out to 2,849 euros a month for a single applicant. The 200% rule and the final figure come from that secondary calculation, so confirm both with your Spanish consulate before you apply (checked 5 October 2026).

Best time to visit and getting around the island
April to May and September to October give the best mix of good weather and manageable crowds, with May rated best for hiking and September best for swimming. (Sources: climatestotravel.com and tenerifepulse.com, checked 30 September 2026.)
A rental car is worth having to reach Teide, Anaga and the west coast properly. TITSA buses cover Santa Cruz, La Laguna and the south coast resorts well enough without one. Compare providers through DiscoverCars, which has separate pricing pages for both Tenerife airports. (No official source confirms this specifically for digital nomads, this reflects the general travel guides cited above.) Our guide to renting a car in Spain covers renting a car in Spain.

Power plugs: Spain uses Type C and F sockets, so a Type C adapter such as the TESSAN European adapter (2 pack) covers it.
Before you go: connectivity and cover
An aloSIM or Airalo eSIM gets you online the moment you land at either airport. For longer stays, most nomads use SafetyWing rather than a single-trip travel policy. See our digital nomad insurance comparison and eSIM comparison for more detail.
Yesim is another eSIM option, with plans for 170+ countries listed on its site. Arriving early or leaving late? Radical Storage lets you book luggage storage at partner locations in Tenerife online. WeGoTrip offers audio guides and attraction tickets in Tenerife.
Holafly is another eSIM option, with unlimited data plans under a fair use policy.

What could be better
- Two airports can be confusing to plan around. Tenerife Sur and Tenerife Norte serve different halves of the island, book carefully against where you're staying.
- The south coast resort strip is built for tourists, not nomads. Santa Cruz and La Laguna have a more genuine coworking scene but less holiday polish.
- Cross-island transport without a car takes longer than it looks on a map. Teide and Los Gigantes are worth the trip but eat a full day on public buses.

FAQ
Which airport should digital nomads fly into on Tenerife?
Tenerife Sur (TFS) is closest to the resort coast, Costa Adeje and Playa de las Americas. Tenerife Norte (TFN) sits closer to the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and the greener north of the island. Pick based on where you're staying.
Does Spain's digital nomad visa cover Tenerife?
Yes. Tenerife and the rest of the Canary Islands fall under Spain's national digital nomad visa, there is no separate Canary Islands scheme.
How much should a taxi from Tenerife Sur airport cost?
Fares are set by the Cabildo de Tenerife and are fixed for common routes: roughly 18 euros to Playa de las Americas, 16 euros to Los Cristianos, and 22 euros to Costa Adeje, according to figures published citing the Cabildo's decree.

The visa asks for at least 200% of Spain's monthly minimum wage on a 12-month basis.
