Buenos Aires Digital Nomad Guide 2026: Cost, Visa, Safety

This Buenos Aires digital nomad guide covers cost, visa and safety. Buenos Aires has one of the more established digital nomad scenes in Latin America, built on cheap rent by international standards, a genuine cafe and coworking culture in Palermo, and its own Digital Nomad Visa for people who would rather not run a visa run every 90 days. It is also a city where the airport transfer and the first taxi ride matter more than usual, both because of a well-known scam pattern at Ezeiza and because Argentina's inflation means fixed prices printed anywhere, including this article, go stale fast. This guide covers what is worth doing, how to get in safely, and where to base yourself.

Quick answer

Book your Ezeiza transfer through the official Tienda Leon counter or a pre-booked service, never through someone approaching you before the desk, and Palermo is the neighborhood most nomads base themselves in. The Argentina Digital Nomad Visa gives you 180 days, extendable once, for foreign-earned income.

Checked on 5 October 2026: the visa application route and documents, on the Argentine government pages (argentina.gob.ar).

What makes Buenos Aires worth the trip

The city rewards people who pick a neighborhood and settle in rather than trying to cover it all from one hotel. The short list:

  • Palermo (Soho and Hollywood). The heart of the nomad scene, with the highest concentration of coworking spaces, cafes and short-term rentals.
  • Recoleta Cemetery. A genuinely striking place to walk through, ornate mausoleums lining narrow avenues in one of the city's wealthiest neighborhoods.
  • San Telmo. The historic tango quarter, best known for its Sunday antiques market.
  • La Boca and Caminito. The colorful, photogenic street that started as a working-class dockside neighborhood, worth a daytime visit rather than an evening one.
  • Puerto Madero. The modern waterfront redevelopment, generally considered the safest area to walk at night.

If Buenos Aires is one stop on a longer Latin America route, our Medellin digital nomad guide covers another common base on the same circuit.

Getting from Ezeiza Airport into the city safely

Ministro Pistarini International Airport (EZE), usually called Ezeiza, handles almost all international flights; Aeroparque (AEP) is the smaller domestic airport closer to the city. There is no train or metro connection between Ezeiza and the center, so your options are a shuttle, a taxi, or a pre-booked transfer.

Manuel Tienda Leon

Manuel Tienda Leon is the recognized official shuttle operator, running from Ezeiza to Terminal Pellegrini downtown in roughly 40 to 60 minutes. A cheaper option is bus route 8 from the airport into the center if you have a SUBE transit card and do not mind a longer ride. (Source: welcomepickups.com and secretsofbuenosaires.com, checked 30 September 2026.)

Prices in Argentine pesos change fast. Argentina's inflation means any peso figure printed here would likely be wrong within weeks. Check the current Tienda Leon fare directly on tiendaleon.com before you book, and expect a licensed taxi from the official Taxi Ezeiza booth to cost noticeably more than the shuttle. (Checked 30 September 2026, published prices change too quickly to repeat here reliably.)

Taxi Ezeiza

Taxi Ezeiza (Cooperativa Taxi Ezeiza) is the official taxi cooperative with a staffed counter in the arrivals hall. It quotes a fixed price before you get in, includes tolls, and accepts pesos, dollars, euros or card. (Source: taxiezeizaoficial.com, checked 30 September 2026.)

Watch out for people approaching you before the official counters. A well-documented scam at Ezeiza involves people positioning themselves ahead of the staffed Tienda Leon or Taxi Ezeiza booths and speaking to arriving travelers as if they represent the official service. Only deal with staff at the actual counter inside the arrivals hall, never anyone who approaches you first. (Source: buenosairestransfers.net, checked 30 September 2026.)

Where to base yourself: coworking and cost

Palermo has the city's real coworking scene: Working&Co El Salvador, AreaTres, La Maquinita and Manawa Coworking Creativo all operate out of the neighborhood. Rent and everyday costs run noticeably lower than most European or North American cities, though prices in pesos move quickly with inflation, so budget in a stable currency rather than a fixed peso number. Our cost of living comparison covers how Buenos Aires stacks up against 20 other nomad cities.

The Argentina Digital Nomad Visa

Argentina's Digital Nomad Visa is open to passport holders who do not need a tourist visa to enter, for people working for a foreign employer or foreign clients. It is valid for 180 days and can be extended once for another 180 days. There is no officially published income threshold, but the informal expectation from immigration lawyers is around 2,000 to 2,500 US dollars a month. Applications go through the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones, which describes an online route before arrival (the TIE 24H electronic system at migraciones.gob.ar, where you upload your documents and receive an email authorization to show at immigration control) and an in-person route at a migration office if you are already in the country. The official page says the in-person route does not use the RaDEX platform. The documents on the official list include a criminal record certificate for applicants over 16, proof of address, a short CV and proof of your remote work such as contracts or income receipts, and foreign documents need an apostille and a certified translation. (Source for this route: argentina.gob.ar service pages for Nómada Digital, checked 5 October 2026.) (Source: goldenharbors.com and citizenremote.com, checked 30 September 2026, no direct migraciones.gob.ar page independently verified this round.) Power plugs: Argentina uses Type I sockets (Type C also appears), so a universal adapter such as the TESSAN 28W universal adapter is the easy way to cover it.

Before you go: connectivity and cover

An aloSIM or Airalo eSIM gets you connected the moment you land. For health cover, most nomads bouncing between countries use SafetyWing, our digital nomad insurance comparison goes through the alternatives.

What could be better

  • The Ezeiza arrivals hall has a real scam pattern. It is manageable if you stick to staffed official counters, but it catches tired travelers who just want to get to their hotel.
  • Peso prices are unreliable the moment they are printed. Budget in dollars or euros mentally and expect quoted peso figures anywhere online to be out of date.
  • There is no train link from Ezeiza. Every option into the city from the main airport involves a road journey of 40 minutes or more depending on traffic.

FAQ

What is the safest way from Ezeiza Airport to the city?

Book the official Manuel Tienda Leon shuttle or a pre-booked transfer, or use the staffed Taxi Ezeiza counter inside the arrivals hall. Never deal with anyone who approaches you before you reach an official counter, a well-known scam involves people posing as official staff.

How much does an airport transfer from Ezeiza cost?

Argentina's inflation moves peso prices quickly, so any fixed figure goes stale within weeks. Check the current fare directly on tiendaleon.com before you book rather than relying on a number from an older article.

What do I need for the Argentina Digital Nomad Visa?

You need to work for a foreign employer or foreign clients and hold a passport that does not require a tourist visa for Argentina. The visa runs 180 days and can be extended once for another 180 days. There is no officially published income minimum, though the informal expectation is around 2,000 to 2,500 US dollars a month.

Which neighborhood should digital nomads stay in?

Palermo, especially the Soho and Hollywood sub-areas, has the highest concentration of coworking spaces, cafes and short-term rentals. Puerto Madero is generally considered the safest area to walk at night.

How do I apply for the Argentina digital nomad visa?

The Argentine government describes an online route before you arrive, through the TIE 24H electronic system at migraciones.gob.ar, and an in-person route at a migration office if you are already in the country (argentina.gob.ar, checked 5 October 2026). You need proof of your remote work, a CV, proof of address and, if you are over 16, a criminal record certificate.
